As a busy homeopath who treats many patients for eczema, acne, psoriasis and allergic irritations I have over time seen the impact of  sore skin. It can affect not only your physical health but your confidence and mental wellbeing too.  I know – I have been there and having bad eczema is how I discovered homeopathy’s magic.

Homeopathy is great for the deeper work, the healing and the improved sense of vitality of the skin.

The UK has some of the highest prevalence of allergic conditions in the world, with over 20% of the population affected by one or more allergic disorder. (M.Levy, 2004 – allergyuk.org)

What many don’t realise is that these allergic symptoms are caused by skincare, make-up and ‘wellbeing’ products that irritate the skin and cause a whole host of problems.

60% of what goes on us goes in us, and we know that products enter our bloodstream due to the efficacy of nicotine patches. So if 60% of goes in us, does that mean that ingredients like parabens, sodium lauryl sulphate, phalates and flouride enter our bloodstream too?

Short answer – yes!

Numerous synthetic ingredients attack us on a daily basis. Think about your routine today.

Did you use a body wash? Brush your teeth? Put on a face cream? Wash your hair? Use a styling product or gel or hairspray? Spray a perfume or anti-perspirant?

How many chemicals do you think you used? Well men use an average of 8 and women 12 products, with an estimation of about 168 chemicals before we’ve even left the house!

Now it’s not up to me to preach, but as a homeopath and a Wellbeing Advisor, I am seeing the benefits of people who are ditching the chemicals. Acne and eczema is just going, hormonal imbalances are improving and people are feeling more confident because their health is boosting with vitality. We don’t need to be using chemicals on our skin and the planet certainly doesn’t need it either!

Tips for detoxing your skincare routine:

Always read the ingredients.

What is in your product? Google the side effects of that ingredient. Pay particular attention to parabens and SLS for their carcinogenic impact.

Install an app like Skin Ninja on your phone and see how Green your products actually are. Think about your daily essentials and switch to a brand that is Natrue certified so you can learn exactly where every ingredient is sourced from.

If you are going to make any switch to detox your routine start with shower gels and shampoos first. These products affect your whole body!

Think about going from an anti-perspirant to a natural deodorant.

*Don’t assume that ‘organic’, ‘green’, ‘‘vegan’, ‘natural’ and ‘SLS free’ mean that the product is any good – the industry is full of greenwashing. Read the ingredients – do your research and ask me if you can try a product before you buy.

Skin care may be only one part of our wellbeing routine, but as the skin is our largest organ, we must treat it with the respect it deserves!
